About Villa Tokara

The Story Behind Villa Tokara’s Management

At Villa Tokara, we take great pride in sharing the journey of how we came to manage this exceptional property.

Our story begins with the visionary establishment of The Curaçao Heritage Fund, a pioneering initiative by The Curaçao Financial Group N.V. (cfg).

Designed to structure a remarkable real estate fund, the Fund has a distinctive mission – investing in income-generating properties nestled within the UNESCO World Heritage boundaries of Willemstad, Curaçao.

The investment of the Curaçao Heritage Fund has been made in fully renovated UNESCO World Heritage properties with a stunning Dutch colonial architecture dated back to the 18th and 19th century, covering a total area of approximately 5,862m2 and situated throughout the Pietermaai Smal district.

An evolving, historic district where emblematic monuments have been restored to their former glory.

Pietermaai Smal is a place where time slows down, inviting you to relax and unwind in its laid-back atmosphere. Yet, beneath its tranquil surface, a vibrant energy pulses through the streets, making it the dynamic heart of Curaçao, often referred to as the ‘Soho’ of the island.

Your invitation awaits.

Where Heritage meets Hospitality

The island has a long and interesting past that you can still see in its culture, buildings, and historical places. It all started with the indigenous Arawaks, who were the first people to live on the island. They grew crops, fished, and traded for a living. In the 15th century, the Spaniards discovered Curaçao, and later on, the Dutch took over in the 17th century. This marked the beginning of the island becoming an important place for European colonial powers looking for trade routes to the New World.

During the 17th and 18th centuries, the salt industry and the transatlantic slave trade thrived on the island. These Dutch influences can still be seen in the architecture and culture of Curaçao today.

Rather than letting these historical treasures fade away, several organizations carefully preserved and restored these monumental houses, transforming them into unique and charming hotels.

By repurposing these architectural gems, we not only provide guests with a glimpse into the island’s captivating past but also offer them an opportunity to experience the authentic heritage of Curaçao firsthand.

As you arrive at Villa Tokara, your eyes will immediately be drawn to our inviting pool, tempting you to take a refreshing dip. The front of the property boasts a spacious terrace, the perfect spot to enjoy a delightful morning breakfast. To shield you from the sun’s rays, we have two massive parasols that not only add a touch of Caribbean charm but also keep you cool and comfortable.

As you enter the lobby, you’ll notice a captivating piece of artwork on the ceiling. We intentionally retained the old restoration, creating a delicate and intriguing display where a chandelier once hung. Rest assured, it’s securely in place, so feel free to walk underneath without any worries.

Venturing into our backyard, you’ll discover a cozy courtyard where you can unwind with a cup of afternoon coffee or engage in lively conversations with your fellow travelers, recounting the exciting adventures of the day.

And that’s just the beginning! We haven’t even introduced you to our rooms yet. From the wooden shutters to the captivating original wooden floors and lofty high ceilings, each carefully curated detail contributes to the ambiance that will embrace you throughout your stay.

At Villa Tokara, we have a strong commitment to energy conservation. As part of our policy, we kindly request all guests to turn off lights and the AC when venturing out for a day of adventure.

Together, we can make a difference.
